Top Gear: Paddy McGuinness and Andrew Flintoff To Replace Matt LeBlanc

After revealing that he was leaving the BBC motoring show earlier this year, it’s just been announced that Matt Leblanc is being replaced by Paddy McGuinness and Freddy Flintoff. The Take Me Out host and English Cricket star will be starting the Series after next when LeBlanc’s contract terminates.

Rory Reid will also be leaving the show, instead being given head presenting responsibilities on Extra Gear, the show that goes into more detail about each episode.

McGuinness and Flintoff are both reported to earn around £500,000 for their Top Gear duties, as well – if you’re interested.

So, stupid decision? Yes – of course. Matt had very little experience with cars, but we knew he was keen on racing and was an experienced Top Gear enthusiast from before he ever thought he was going to join the BBC. Rory Reid is also an experienced journalist whom many had taken a liking to after his first couple of series.

The two new additions to the presenter lineup, McGuinness and Flintoff have very little experience in motoring as far as we know, and have next to no experience in motoring journalism. Do they have any connections to the motoring industry whatsoever? Not that I can find.

The BBC need to realise that they can’t improve Top Gear by just adding famous faces. Not only do the presenters need to mesh and have chemistry, but they also need to know their stuff, and I highly doubt these new presenters would know as much about the industry as a weathered journalist.

Do you agree? Let me know in the comments. Start the conversation!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
