James May’s Volcanic Barbecue – Hilariously Funny

We know that James is a bit of a foodie. While he’s admitted he’s not overly good at cooking – he gets drunk while cooking it so he doesn’t have to taste it later on – he enjoys good food. So when at the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland (yes, it’s spelled like that), he uses his James May mind to cook him up some lamb chops.

In 2010, James drove up the side of an active volcano. The lava flow from the last eruption, only a few weeks before the filming, was still red hot. So of course, he needed to shovel some into a pile and put a pan over the heat.

What James didn’t notice, was the large rocks falling from further up the mass of dried lava. With a worried shout from the team behind the camera, he jumps out of the way and keeps a keen eye on falling rocks from then on.

Volcanologist Haraldur Sigurdsson joined May on his expedition so he couldn’t have been in too much danger.

The best thing about this trip, was that shortly after Top Gear’s venture up the volcano it erupted again. And Top Gear being Top Gear, took partial responsibility.

What was your favourite trip the trio went on? North Pole? The hunt for the source of the Nile? Let me know in the comments below!

Alex Harrington

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
