The Grand Tour

Watch James May Eat Rotten Shark and More

How would you expect Gordon Ramsay to prove that James May is the most manly of all three Grand Tour hosts? There’s the Japanese tradition of drinking a shot with a beating snake heart residing in it? Or you could take him fishing I suppose… I’ve heard that’s quite manly?

Ramsay takes it one step further by inviting James to his restaurant and dishing up the most manly of food and drink. The first being a shot of what’s called ‘snake whiskey’ from Laos – basically a whiskey that has been infused with a, believe it or not, snake.

James knocks it back without hesitation, like you would a shot of mineral water. Ramsay shakes his head recovering from the alcohol as James looks at him, and bluntly says, “it’s quite light really.”

“You’ve spent too much time with old Clark, you know that” Gordon replies as the next dish is lowered in front of them. This times it’s a bull’s penis. James bursts out into laughter as the dish is placed under his nose. Apparently this dish is a good aphrodisiac, for those of you who wanted to know.

The ‘hilt’ is chosen by James before he swiftly devours the meat, before clarifying that it’s ‘alright really’.

At this point Ramsay can’t fathom what he’s hearing, so brings out the big guns: Rotten shark.

This piece had been put underground for three months where it had gone off and turned a bit of a strange color. To prove you’re a man, you have to eat it…

… without being sick.

You’ll have to watch the video to find out if James May is able to do it. But I’ll give you a clue. This is a quote from James towards the end of the video:

“You disappoint me Ramsay!”

From now on I don’t think I can ever look at James in the same way. Or a bull for that matter.
