Travel Guide: How to Get to The Grand Tour Studio for Season 2

With applications for tickets being filled out by hopeful viewers of The Grand Tour for their chance to watch the studio segments of season 2, we here at Grand Tour Nation thought we’d put together a travel guide for those who aren’t familiar with this part of England.

Read on for a full overview of the location, how to get there, where to stay, and other things you can do around the location of filming.

DATES

So let’s first start with dates. Filming commences on the 25th of October and carries on until the 19th of December. A couple of tickets could be one hell of an early Christmas present! Each individual date are as follows:

Please note that your application does not mean you will definitely receive tickets.

LOCATION

All Amazon are telling us is that filming will be held in the Cotswolds, but since that’s a large area, we’ve kept a keen eye on things here and we can almost say for certain that it will take place in the village of Great Tew, close to Chipping Norton.

Highlighted in red is Great Tew, just North of Oxford.

HOW TO GET THERE

Since you’re so close to Oxford, it’s worth putting in the effort to find a flight that will take you to Oxford Airport, bear in mind it is also known as London Oxford Airport and even Kidlington Airport. Don’t ask. Failing that, you could fly to Birmingham International Airport and make your way South via the M40 and come off at Junction 10. Or around about. There will be coaches that make their way in that direction, or even a train. Use this website to find and book a train!.

Give yourself plenty of time though, English public transport is known to be… hit and miss. Oh, and pack for cold weather! Maybe purchase a hoodie or two

Even if you’re not close to Oxford, you can book a quick flight or join a train to the location to enjoy the grand tour. For example, if you’re currently in London, you can find the cheapest train ticket to Oxford to board. And if you’re a tourist with too much luggage, look for storage solutions like Paddington left luggage before you set off. This way, you can leave behind your heavy luggage in a safe and secure location.

WHERE TO STAY

If you’re travelling far, then you’re going to want to stay a night or two to make the most of the beautiful countryside. Bear in mind that this area is on the expensive side, so you’re probably looking at £100.00 upwards for a good hotel. Click HERE to get an idea of pricing, but shop around! You could even look at renting a place though Air BNB.

THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA

Why not extend your travels to a couple of days and make the most of the gorgeous area. Of course you have Oxford, home to the river Cherwell Thames, and plenty of old English cafes (get an afternoon cream tea, you won’t regret it) and pubs, as well as traditional cobble streets. And let’s not forget one of the best universities on the planet, Oxford University. Their glorious grounds are usually open to have a wander if you fancy.

Moving slightly further out there’s Bicester Village which houses designer outlet stores like Prada and Mulberry for those of you who like a bargain (although still very expensive so bring your credit card!).

If you move South of Great Tew you find yourself in Woodstock, which is home to the magnificent Blenheim Palace. Definitely worth a viewing if you have a free afternoon. You can get in for around £25,00, but they’ll usually have some sort of deal to tickle your fancy.

If you find yourself with a rental car with a bit of push, make the most of the winding country roads around the area while of course sticking to the speed limits – seriously, there are cameras, but some roads will let you stretch your legs.

Want to take a sneak peak at the new Eboladrome test track? It’s just over an hour away, but could definitely be worth the journey! Just follow the map below to RAF Wroughton in Swindon!

ENJOY!

Want to see what you’re in for this season? Watch the video below! Let’s get excited!

We wish you the best of luck in getting tickets, and make sure you do enjoy the countryside of England. Like I said, bring clothes for the cold and wet, and indulge in our English Breakfast tea in a Grand Tour themed mug! Have a lovely time and safe travels!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
