The Grand Tour: Why We Shouldn’t Be Annoyed By Only Two Episodes Per Season

Andy Wilman has just revealed the news that Season 4 will only consist of two special episodes, and as you may have seen, fans aren’t happy with this. But there are many reasons as to why this isn’t so bad. Yes it’s not ideal, but us fans of cars and the trio still have a reason to be happy.

There’s Now More Clarkson, Hammond and May Content Than Ever

While there may only be two episodes a year for Season 4, there’s never been more Clarkson, Hammond and May content being produced for our consumption. Each of the presenters has their solo projects coming which will consist of several episodes per season, plus, they’ve never been more active on social media.

Clarkson is posting most days with updates from his life, filming, and family, and their joint venture DriveTribe is rich with content from one of the presenters. Just take a look at the video below to see what we’re talking about.

The Two Grand Tour Special Episodes Are Going To Be Movie Length

In an interview, which you can find here, Andy Wilman explained that the first episode of Season 4 is currently sat at 1 hour and 45 minutes long. This is the length of a movie – definitely longer than the 50-60 minute episodes that we’re used to. This means we can sit back and enjoy an actual movie, but with Clarkson, Hammond and May at the helm.

How long have we wanted a Top Gear or The Grand Tour movie? A long time, so ladies and gents, here it is. And we get two! A year!

There Is So Much Other Car TV

Whatever the die hard fans may say about the new Top Gear, it’s actually pretty good. Yes it’s in its early days still, but there was a time where Top Gear hadn’t quite found out what it wanted to be.

If you still don’t want to give Top Gear a go, though, there is the whole of YouTube that is teaming with car content, both serious and funny. I’ll embed some videos below for you to watch.

Last but not least, The Grand Tour isn’t going to end. Not yet anyway. So things can always change. Stay happy people!

  1. Folks…really….I think its time to give the boys a break. They have been going at it for how many decades now? There are only so many places you can visit, only so many challenges you can create, and only so many penis jokes and pranks to play on each other. If I were them I would be very worried about jumping the shark and thanking their lucky stars it hasn’t happened already. And – sadly like the rest of us – they ain’t gettin’ any younger. Hammond has almost died *how many* times for our amusement?

They are condensing down what they do the best. I get it.

Thank you gentlemen, for years of entertainment and enlightenment. I will support you in whichever directions you choose to go. I owe you that.

  2. Exposed for what they truly are. Not car guys certainly not regular car guys. Elitists. That’s it. They’ve always thought they were better than everyone else and this just confirms it.

  3. I signed up for Amazon Prime solely to wath TGT, and I am disappointed that they are cutting back from ~12hrs of content per season to ~3hrs of content per season.

The argument that ‘there’s so much more car content to watch!’ is bull. By the same logic I shouldn’t be disappointed that Amazon doesn’t have Kung Fu panda because they have a movie called “Chop Kick Panda.”

  4. What a load of Punk I mean really enjoy a movie it’s only the length of two normal episodes so all in all that is only four episodes instead of 12 how was that a win explain it to me calmly and rationally please how 4 instead of 12 it’s better and I’ve watched these other car shows they are nowhere near as good!!!!!

  5. Let’s us also remember that there were contracts signed for…….3 seasons. I was fully prepared that we’d get the 3 and then that’s would be it.

These guys have been with us for decades and it’s not been due to the cars. It’s been down to them. So with more GT than I was expecting and their own series, I’m not crying.

  6. Top Gear is nothing but a smoldering pile of Ash. As for The Grand Tour if you’re going to pull stunts like this give the fans and staff A Farewell season. This is disgusting! As for YouTube the need to take out the trash not worth watching.

  7. Nobody gives a flying F+$& about “other content/projects”!!
We tune in to see those particular three individuals banter and give us useless information for the common man, and make penis jokes. To hell with everything else!!
    Grant me these wishes three.
    1. Way More Episodes!
    2. Less talk, more action
    3. Give us back our show!!

  8. Most of their previous specials were 2-parters and each part around 1 hour. Most seasons we got one special per season.

So what they are saying now, is that these specials, that are no longer than previous ones, somehow make up for the fact that the remaining 10 episodes of a season have been cut…

I am annoyed. I enjoy watching the three interact with one another on a car related show. I’m not terribly interested in their solo projects. Though now, I may have to look at them simply to get more Clarkson, May, and Hammond.

  9. Did you seriously just put out there that if you are mad about the lack of new Grand Tour episodes, there are other programs you can watch? Really, did you just tell your readers and viewers to f””” off?
