The Grand Tour: Clarkson and Co Under Fire For Rumoured After-Party Against COVID Regulations

The Grand Tour has finished its filming in Scotland for the next episode of the car show, but now Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are coming under fire with rumours circulating online that they had a party at one of the hotels they stayed at. Usually, in a normal world, this would be fine, but with current Coronavirus restrictions, this is a breach of the government guidelines.

According to the Daily Record, the rumoured party took place in Benbecula where they stayed and had an “after-party”. But the Dark Island Hotel rejected this story, with the company calling it “misinformation”, while adding that The Grand Tour presenters and team had been “exemplary” guests.

In a recent Facebook post, they said the following:

In light of recent social media posts, we thought it appropriate to correct some of the mis-information about our involvement with The Grand Tour.
Firstly, we would like to make it clear that there is no ‘after party’ being held at the hotel and that all members of the The Grand Tour team are following the same rules and guidelines put in place for everyone, including the curfew of 10pm for hospitality and licensed premises. We work closely with Police Scotland who are aware of our operating procedures and application.
The Grand Tour have been exemplary in their approach to COVID-19 and they have communicated with the relevant local authorities for this event to happen. They have also brought with them a dedicated COVID-19 testing facility with their team members being tested regularly. As part of this approach to help reduce contact and interaction with our staff and local community they have also brought their own catering services to provide their meals, which includes the provision of plastic cutlery which Jeremy seems to be struggling with 😆
As a whole we see this as a positive event for the local community and our staff, which does act as a slight distraction when there is so much angst around.
Stay Safe everyone and remember FACTS.
These rumours began when South Uist Covid cases started to rise with the confirmation that a “visitor” had tested positive, however it’s very clear that The Grand Tour team had taken their traveling very seriously, with constant testing and procedures in place to lower risk.

Clarkson has recently posted a photo to Instagram, describing how Covid testing is now a daily recurrence.

The Grand Tour’s Scottish antics see them driving three American cars, with them eventually towing caravans and modifying them to compete at a drag strip. See the videos below to get the full picture.
