Jeremy Clarkson To Drive The Senna In The Grand Tour Season 3

The big man himself, Jeremy Clarkson, has posted to his Tribe on DriveTribe announcing that he is driving McLaren’s latest track monster, the Senna. While he doesn’t confirm it, this has to be for filming of Season 3 of The Grand Tour.

The Senna is the latest McLaren to be included in the ‘Ultimate Series’ lineup and is McLaren’s answer to as fully fledged a race car as you can get on the road. They explain it as the following.

“McLaren’s DNA at its most extreme. A track car without compromise, legalised for the road but not sanitised to suit it. Nothing else matters but to deliver the most intense driving experience around a circuit.”

Thats quite a promise from the lads down in Woking.

They’ve taken the tried and tested 4.0-litre V8 from the rest of their lineup and tuned it until it started pumping out 789bhp and 590lb ft of torque. Add a strong diet to the chassis which weighs only 1,200kg dry, and you can easily workout how they’ve managed to make it charge to 62mph in just 2.8 seconds.

But a racing car isn’t just about straight line speeds, which is why they’ve added the arguably ugly wings and protrusions. They all add up to 800kg of downforce. While this number doesn’t match that of the Aston Martin Valkyrie or AMG Project One, it certainly makes it one of the most capable track cars McLaren has ever made (excluding their GTR versions).

We take it this car will have its moment on the Eboladrome – we can’t wait to see where it finishes!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
