Jeremy Clarkson Reveals The Hardest Episode Of His Top Gear And Grand Tour Career

With news spiralling of the next episode of The Grand Tour being one of the toughest episodes Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May have ever attempted, we’ve been wondering what the very hardest episode was that they’ve ever attempted.

The Madagascar Special promises insane roads that even the most capable of off-road machines would struggle to handle, but it still isn’t the hardest episode they’ve had to make, according to ex-Top Gear host Clarkson, despite it making history for the trio.

“A Massive Hunt, that’s what’s next. This is our newest special and we did it in Madagascar, largely. Reunion to start with.

“I think it’s probably fair to say it was not the hardest, that would have been the North Pole, but the toughest roads we’ve ever driven on.”

Top Gear’s Polar Special was one of the greatest episodes of the car show as it followed a race between Hammond on a dog sled, and Clarkson and May in the invincible Arctic Trucks AT38 Hilux. Both teams gave their all in order to reach the most Northern point on the planet, battling through freezing temperatures, awful terrain, and exhaustion.

Hammond, still suffering from the effects caused by his jet-powered drag racing crash, found this incredibly difficult, while his fellow presenters snacked on chocolate in a warm off-roader. The episode is certainly a fan favourite, and for good reason.

Despite this expedition to the most Northern point was the worst, both teams did eventually finish, so it was a surprise to hear that one of the trio didn’t finish their Madagascan endeavours.

“And it’s the first time, I think ever, that one of us fails to finish,” Clarkson admits.

“The only problem is, it was filmed such a long time ago, we can’t remember which of us it was.”

The Grand Tour Presents: A Massive Hunt will be released on Amazon Prime Video on December 18, 2020. It’s safe to say, we’re very excited.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
