Jeremy Clarkson Defends Sebastian Vettel Over Climate Change Battle After F1 Driver Retires

Jeremy Clarkson has been extremely vocal over his thoughts on climate change over the last few years of his career, picking fights with the likes of Greta Thunberg and her fellow environmentalists. But when a Twitter user joked about Sebastian Vettel’s recent remarks on global warming, the Clarkson’s Farm presenter was keen to defend the F1 driver.

It was revealed earlier this week that Vettel is retiring from the sport at the end of the 2022 season. He released a statement through Aston Martin F1:

“The decision to retire has been a difficult one for me to take, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it,” Vettel revealed in a statement..

“At the end of the year I want to take some more time to reflect on what I will focus on next; it is very clear to me that, being a father, I want to spend more time with my family.

“But today is not about saying goodbye. Rather, it is about saying thank you – to everyone – not least to the fans, without whose passionate support Formula 1 could not exist.”

Yesterday Grand Tour Nation reported that Jeremy had reacted to this on Twitter, kindly posting:

“Seb was a bright star in F1 but I think he’ll be even brighter when he’s out of it.”

One of Clarkson’s 7.7 million Twitter followers responded to him, joking about the Aston Martin driver’s comments and actions on the fight against global warming:

“He can put his underpants on outside again and save the planet from global warming , hurrah!” they tweeted, referencing the time he wore his underwear outside his racing suit to protest against FIA regulations on wearing the correct clothing.

The Grand Tour presenter responded quickly:

“No no no. He’s a very funny man and he has an opinion on things. You might not share that opinion but so what?”

Clarkson obviously has a soft spot for the racing driver, and who doesn’t. Vettel will be missed, but I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Aston Martin CEO and owner Lawrence Stroll said the following on his retirement:

“I want to thank Sebastian from the bottom of my heart for the great work that he has done for Aston Martin over the past year and a half.

“We made it clear to him that we wanted him to continue with us next year, but in the end he has done what he feels is right for himself and his family, and of course we respect that. He has driven some fantastic races for us, and, behind the scenes, his experience and expertise with our engineers have been extremely valuable.

“He is one of the all-time greats of Formula One, and it has been a privilege to have been able to work with him. He will continue to race for us up to and including the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will be his 300th grand prix entry. We will give him a fabulous send-off.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
