Jeremy Clarkson Branded Racist After Recent Tweet Blows Up About Sebastian Vettel

Jeremy Clarkson has come under fire after The Grand Tour presenter stood up for F1 driver Sebastian Vettel’s opinions over climate change. Branding the presenter as racist, Twitter users are now comparing this reaction to Clarkson’s comments on Lewis Hamilton, who he often calls out on the social media site.

“No no no. He’s a very funny man and he has an opinion on things. You might not share that opinion but so what?” Clarkson asked a Twitter user that was joking about Vettel’s work against climate change. But this caused other users to launch an attack on Jeremy as they question why he wasn’t so forgiving with Lewis Hamilton’s opinions.

“So why are you so bad with Lewis ? Oh yeah he’s black I forgot,” one user responded.

Another added: “So why’d u dislike Lewis so much, literally no differences between what him and seb do, both use their platforms to speak on things bigger than f1.” [sic]

A third questioned: “So why do you vilify Lewis for doing the same thing and for much longer?” with another answering, “Because Racism i guess”.

Clarkson has had a long history with the 7-time world champion. In 2021, he claimed the driver needed a “smacked bottom” in a column:

“Lewis Hamilton needs a smacked bottom. He spent most of last week’s thrilling race on the radio, claiming the chap in front of him Fernando Alonso was cheating. Which he wasn’t. And then when Lewis finishes in third place, he flopped about on the podium claiming he has ‘long Covid’, which seems to me to be another way of saying: ‘Please ignore Esteban Ocon, the rookie who just beat me. I’m the real hero and don’t you forget that,” the Clarkson’s Farm presenter wrote.

He continued:

“Well I’m sorry Lewis, but if you behave like that, you aren’t. Oh, and pay your taxes.”

Hamilton is one of the top 5,000 tax payers in the UK according to HMRC, and on top of this pays taxes in a number of other countries. Obviously, in this column, Clarkson was using this reference for humour, but it should be understood that the rumour that Hamilton doesn’t pay his tax is false.

Clarkson also wrote a column on how Lewis “has changed”.

“Every race weekend, Lewis Hamilton gets out of his car and thanks the crowd – presumably hoping we at home can’t hear them booing,” Clarkson wrote for The Sun.

“It happens everywhere he goes, whether he wins or loses.

“People love Max Verstappen but they’ve taken a noisy dislike to Lewis. The problem is that Lewis has changed.

“When he first came on to the scene he was bright and talented and normal – and everyone loved him.

“But then he decided to go woke and right-on and more politically correct than a student union AGM.

“After the murder of George Floyd, he had Mercedes paint the cars black, he talks about how he’s now green because he sold his jet and has urged everyone to be vegetarian.

“All this might work well on social media but in the real world, where people live, it doesn’t work at all.

“And this is a problem for the green movement. They get Lewis to be a mouthpiece thinking he’ll convert the rest of us.

“But instead, we all just want to throw something at him.”

It’s no secret that Jeremy isn’t a fan of the driver. But is this powered by racism? No, I really don’t think so.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
