Jeremy Clarkson Admits It’s “A Lot Of Work” Making James May Sound Good On The Grand Tour

Jeremy Clarkson, presenter of The Grand Tour has joked about working with James May and Richard Hammond in a recent podcast with Andy Jane. Here, he admitted what it was like working with the presenters he’s been with since around 2002.

“You try making James May interesting, that takes a lot of work,” Clarkson joked.

Andy, who has had May on a previous podcast, explained how he thought he was lovely and had an hour-long chat with him on a previous episode.

Jeremy bats back with yet another swipe at poor May: “Even without my scripts, an hour… what did he get through the weather forecast?

“We try to get James to say things quickly, we’re like James, can you say that again but take less than two and a half hours?”

The Grand Tour trio returned to Amazon Prime after more than a year since their previous episode. The special episode, A Massive Hunt, followed the trio through Madagascar as they searched for hidden pirate treasure, but Clarkson admitted it was hard work for James with his poorly chosen Caterham.

He explained: “I knew James May was behind me and I just thought this is hilarious, because he is simply going to go under the water here.

“It isn’t water, but whatever this is and it was all captured under these waterproof cameras.

“I don’t know what it is about James, but I think if Hammond and I are falling over and getting muddy, it’s quite funny obviously, but when it’s James, it’s like watching a librarian fall over.

“There is something funny about watching James May suffering from great discomfort, which perhaps wouldn’t be funny if it was Richard or me.”

May suffered greatly with his chosen car as the trio competed with the worst roads they’ve ever driven. Clarkson admittedly chose the best car: a modified Bentley Continental, that was able to eat up the rocky, muddy, and wet road. He has later admitted, however, that this car will need to be scrapped by Bentley themselves.

A Massive Hunt is live on Amazon Prime Video.
