James May Rips Into Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat: “It’s Ridiculous”

DriveTribe have been doing the rounds with their latest long-term press car, a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody. Richard Hammond was very taken by the American muscle car, however, James May was not impressed.

The former Top Gear host instantly compares the Hellcat to the Dodge Charger he drove in the Detroit special of The Grand Tour, saying that one had 1000 horsepower rather than the 707 that this one has. May goes onto brand the car as “ridiculous” pretty much straight away and says the big and wide body is not great for the narrow UK roads and would be “alarming for passengers”.

The Hellcat Widebody has a supercharged 6.2 litre engine providing 707 horsepower. It has an additional 3.5 inches on each side and Bilstein adaptable suspension. It is obviously left-hand drive and has been imported via a company called AEC which imports cars to Europe.

DriveTribe chose the Dodge Charger Hellcat to be able to compare is to the BMW M5, which James May loved.

The already unimpressed May starts to rip into the car more once they look at the interior of the £61,000 car. He says:

“It’s not sh**e, but you’re never going to say ‘please be my guest Your Majesty’. You know, it’s not polished is it? It’s not discrete, it’s not um… polite”

The one part that seems to impress May is the supercharged V8 under the hood, however, he is quickly distracted by some questionable welding on an unidentifiable part on the left hand side of the engine bay.

It’s safe to say James May was not impressed with the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody, but probably more interested in plugging his James’ Gin.
