Clarkson’s Farm: Jeremy Clarkson’s Diddly Squat Plans Come To A Halt As Disaster Hits

Following his hit TV show Clarkson’s Farm, 28 objections have been submitted to Jeremy Clarkson’s planning application to open a new 60-seat café/restaurant and 70-space parking lot at Diddly Squat Farm.

It turns out that the land proposed for the restaurant used to be a quarry, which was subsequently abandoned. A response from consultee ERS Pollution to the planning application now states that the proposed site might therefore be too hazardous to develop on.

According to their reports, the site’s territory was previously utilized as a quarry, and it may now be filled ground.

“No development shall take place until a desk study and if required a site investigation of the nature and extent of contamination has been carried out in accordance with a methodology which has previously been submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority.

“The results of the site investigation shall be made available to the local planning authority before any development begins.”

The report continues: “If any significant contamination is found during the site investigation, a report specifying the measures to be taken to remediate the site to render it suitable for the development hereby permitted shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority before any development begins.

“If, during the course of development, any contamination is found which has not been identified in the site investigation, additional measures for the remediation of this contamination shall be submitted to and approved in writing by the local planning authority.”

The planning application to West Oxfordshire District Council from Jeremy’s team says that Diddly Squat is ‘facing an acute reduction in the Basic Payment Scheme’, a government subsidy that’s being slowly stopped. This income will therefore fall from £83,298 to £0 over the period 2020 to 2028.

“It is reasonable for a farm business to investigate ways to replace this income with on-farm diversification to create new income streams or expand existing enterprises,” the application says.

It states that the aforementioned Government subsidy received by Diddly Squat Farm “accounted for over 85 per cent of the business’s profit” the last year.

The Grand Tour presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, who is apparently worth £50 million thanks to his successful series Clarkson’s Farm, The Grand Tour, and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire met Chadlington locals at a public meeting to answer their questions about his vision for the area.

He admitted to local press that his plans for the future of Diddly Squat Farm, including the restaurant, “have gone down like a shower of sick with a few red-trouser people in my local village”.

  1. Why wasn’t testing and surveying done when the quarry company finished using the quarry. Surely you don’t contaminate an area then just leave it for others to pick up the bill. The Gold Rush series mining companies have to leave the land the way they found after finishing mining and moving on to thier next site.
