The Grand Tour

Aston Martin AM-RB-001 Debuts in Canada

A little while ago we reported on a new Hyper-car in the making from a joint effort of Red Bull and Aston Martin. It was also mentioned in the second episode of The Grand Tour as part of their “Conversation Street”. This very light-weight hyper car is known as AM-RB-001, (obviously a still very concepty name), and is said to be a soon-to-be competitor for the holy trinity lineup. Since then a few more details have emerged on what this crazy new hyper machine is housing.

“Much like Formula One, designing, engineering and building a car like the AM-RB 001 is a massive team effort. To achieve great things you need to surround yourself with the best people. Experience, creativity, energy, diligence and perfectionism are absolute must-have qualities in every area of the project. Having great technical partners such as those working with us is both reassuring and motivating. Together we aim to produce an innovative piece of engineering art.”  Adrian Newey – Chief Technical Officer of Redbull Racing

As for exact numbers as far as horsepower or exact weight, etc, etc goes there hasn’t been anything said. What we do know is it has a 6.5l naturally-aspirated V12 from Cosworth which is mated with a hybrid battery system supplied by Rimac, (Rimac is the creators of the very very amazing 1088 horsepower Concept_One Supercar). All of this combined power will be sent through a 7-speed duel clutch transmission built by Ricardo. To stop all this power Newey went to the guys at Alcon and Surface Transforms for their amazing calipers and brake discs. Multimatic, a Canadian company that helped develop the One-77, is in charge of crafting the all carbon-fiber tub.

As far as production numbers go rumor has it it’ll be around 150 with 25 of those being a track only version. So if they haven’t already sold out, (which I’m sure they have), you may want to get your checkbooks out and start writing a very large number.
