Are James May and Jeremy Clarkson Retiring Soon?

If you’ve been on Facebook lately, you must have seen something to do with the English monarchy on the trending list. It looks like there’s been something of a kerfuffle surrounding the English monarchy lately, and not long ago the mist surrounding the ‘top secret emergency meeting’ thinned and it was revealed that Prince Philip will be retiring from all public engagements.

This couldn’t come too soon for Phil, as he’s at the ripe old age of 96 now, and deserves a bit of peace at his quaint little palace. It’s not all good news, however.

James May has tweeted about this news, and it seems as though his years of entertaining may possibly be coming to an end.

James May is 54 years old – still a young man in this day and age where the age of retirement is forever increasing – but from this tweet, is he planning his retirement already? Retiring 40 years earlier than the Prince Philip would make James 56 – coincidentally, the age he will be when their contract with Amazon draws to a close.

Does this mean James will be leaving the show after the third season? I hope not!

Clarkson replied to this tweet with a “I am too,” but with him being 57 already, that doesn’t make much sense.

Maybe it’s a joke. Maybe it’s a coincidence. But May is a very, very smart person… So think what you will.

What do you think would happen if our Captain Slow left The Grand Tour? Would it go on with only Clarkson and Hammond left? Would they find a replacement? Or would they all stop and focus their energy on other projects such as DriveTribe? Is Clarkson thinking about retirement too? Let me know what you think in the comments.

If they are retiring… I know a road they could both move to…

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
