Michael Schumacher’s Family Break Down In Tears As They Accept State Prize On His Behalf

The wife of Michael Schumacher was seen breaking down into tears as the F1 legend was honoured in a recent awards ceremony. The 7-time world champion was ripped from the limelight after he suffered major head injuries during an off-piste run during skiing.

Since this, his family has stayed away from the cameras, keeping the life of Michael away from the limelight. But earlier this week, he was awarded the State Prize of North Rhine-Westphalia. Unfortunately, his son Mick wasn’t able to attend due to being unwell. Michael’s wife Corinna and daughter Gina-Maria were there however to honour him and accept the honour on his behalf.

Joining them on the stage was former FIA president and Ferrari team principal Jean Todt, with all three of them witnessing a standing ovation from the crowd.

Todt tweeted the following:

“An emotional ceremony in Cologne to honour Michael Schumacher’s outstanding career and charitable streak with Corinna, Gina, Mick Schumacher and Henrik Wust.

“I met Michael 30 years ago, with Ferrari, living his passion and bringing joy to millions of us!”

He later admitted to Bild: “That’s just natural. No one planned it to be so emotional that tears were shed by Corinna, but sometimes it’s good to not always control yourself.”

He also revealed the fact that he sees Michael, giving us little insight into his health:

“I don’t miss Michael, I see him. Yes, it’s true, I watch races with Michael.

“But sure, I guess what I miss is what we used to do together.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
