Daniel Ricciardo put down the fastest time as teams returned to F1 testing at Barcelona today. But during the last hour of the morning portion of the event, Sergio Perez caused the first red flag of the event.
The first day of testing was a successful one with McLaren’s Lando Norris taking the top of the time sheet in front of the two Ferraris and the two Mercedes. But on Turn 13 of the track during the second day of testing, Perez’s Red Bull came to a stop with suspected gearbox problems. The recovery of the car saw a 20 minute suspension.
McLaren then continued to show its dominance as Daniel Ricciardo heads the timesheet with a lap time of 1m20.355s on the C3 compound from Pirelli, beating Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari. Pierre Gasly also had a streak of pace in the AlphaTauri ending up only half a second behind the Australian.
Alex Albon followed with a fastest lap for Williams putting him in fourth fastest so far, and Lance Stroll followed him in the Aston Martin.
