F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Reacts To His Lucky 3rd Place Finish: “There Is A Long Way To Go”

After a few weeks of intense struggle for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and team principal and CEO Toto Wolff promising fans that they wouldn’t have a competitive car this year, fans of the team were overwhelmed to see Lewis take third place in the Bahrain Grand Prix followed by Russell in fourth.

Now, the 7-time world champion has reacted to his lucky win after both Red Bull cars retired within the last couple of laps:

“Firstly a big congratulations to Ferrari,” Hamilton told the press. “I am so happy to see them doing well again. It is such a historic, epic team. It is so great to see Charles [Leclerc] and Carlos [Sainz] up there as well – I am so happy for them.

“It was such a difficult race. We have struggled throughout practice and this is the best result we could have got. We did the best we could and are grateful for these points.

“The guys are working hard back at the factory. It is not going to be a quick turnaround. I do feel like we have been the best most unified team for so long. We all know to keep our heads down and keep working as there is a long way to go.”

This year could well be an uphill battle for Mercedes, but collecting 3rd and 4th place points will make sure they go into it with the motivation they need to fix the aero issues they’re having. It’s a long year, so it’s fair to say anything could happen.
