F1 News: Haas Chief Addresses Mick Schumacher’s Poor Performance So Far This Season
Being a Schumacher hasn’t necessarily done Mick any favours within the world of F1, with the name being synonymous with winning, victory, and being at the top of the grid. Unfortunately for the Haas driver, Mick is far from being at the top, and now team principal Guenther Steiner has mentioned to the press that he’s yet to move in the right direction in comparison to teammate Kevin Magnussen.
Mick’s first year of Formula 1 wasn’t overly competitive with then-teammate Nikita Mazepin not putting up much of a fight. But this year, Magnussen has been a driver to watch as he’s moved Haas further up the grid than any of us expected, truly showing us how fast these Haas cars can be.
“Mick knows that and he also has a good chance of getting his first points,” Steiner told the press. “I hope he scores them as soon as possible because we want him to score points too. It’s not easy to score points in Formula 1 because there are a lot of good drivers and good teams.
“I wouldn’t say Mick has made great strides forward this winter.”
He continued:
“We brought Kevin back because we know what he is capable of and he is a good driver who is now a benchmark to show Mick what he can achieve. It would be nice if Mick opened his counter. He didn’t make it unfortunately, but the points will have to come at some point. Kevin scored, he showed the way.”
The Miami GP saw Mick finish in last place after an altercation with Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel, but Steiner didn’t question his driving here. Instead, they focus their efforts on Barcelona and the Spanish Grand Prix.
