F1 News: Drive to Survive Next 2 Seasons Confirmed
2019 brought us the first-ever season of Drive to Survive, and with that thousands and thousands of new F1 fans around the world started tuning in to the drama between teams, drivers, and of course, the racing. The Netflix show has certainly been up against it from both drivers and fans after it was noted that a lot of the show’s scenes were dramatised, but overall it’s been an extremely positive marketing strategy for the sport.
Now, it’s been confirmed by Formula 1 that Netflix has renewed the show for two more seasons after stellar performance. Season 4, for example, reached number one in the world in 33 countries earlier this year. It helped the F1 breach the American market, and this has certainly helped the sport gain traction as we enter the weekend of the Miami GP.
Filming for the fifth season of the show has, of course, already started, but it’s only just been confirmed this week with F1 also confirming a season following it.
“Formula 1 and Netflix can today confirm that the highly popular series Formula 1: Drive to Survive has been renewed for a fifth and sixth season on Netflix,” a statement from F1 read.
“Offering unprecedented access, the new season will once again take fans behind the scenes to witness first-hand how the drivers and teams prepare to battle it out for the 2022 and 2023 championships.
“The series will offer never-before-seen footage and interviews from the sport’s biggest names.”
The end of last season ended on the controversial ending of the Abu Dhabi as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s battle for the championship came to an end. This will likely be picked up this year, as well as Haas’ drama with its Russian sponsors and Mercedes’ seemingly constant battle with porpoising.
Season 5 of Drive to Survive is set for release in early 2023.
