F1 News: AlphaTauri Driver Pierre Gasly Has Until 2024 To Sign With Red Bull

Pierre Gasly drove for Red Bull for the majority of the 2019 F1 season but then got moved to their sister team AlphaTauri at the very end of the season. Gasly has been performing extremely well for AlphaTauri recently, winning the Monza F1 in 2020, and has made his opinion very clear that he thinks he should be back on the Red Bull team.

Gasly knows that if he isn’t back on the Red Bull team by the 2024 season then he may well have to continue his F1 career elsewhere.

The 26-year-old easily beat his rookie teammate Yuki Tsunoda in 2021 and Gasly’s deal with AlphaTauri is due to run out at the end of next season.

Gasly has come to terms with the fact that if he doesn’t get back onto the Red Bull team by 2024, then his time with the team will be over, but believes it is still premature to discuss his next steps.

“Helmut [Marko] has already said it, so it’s no longer a secret that I have one year left on my contract after this year,” Gasly told the Dutch edition of Motorsport.com.

“Then it’s clear: either we make the move to Red Bull, or not. What happens after that, it’s far too early to talk about that. I am now focusing on this year, that it goes as well as possible.

“But it is clear that I want to be in a fast car that I can fight with for victories. That is the only thing that matters to me.

“I want to win races in Formula 1 and I need a car that allows me to do that. We will discuss it with Helmut when the time comes.”

With the majority of drivers on the grid having their contracts end in 2023, there will be potential opportunities coming up and could be significant reshuffles across the teams.

Gasly was often within the top six drivers in last year’s F1 and he says that he wants to match his current achievements and hopefully improve on them:

“I am very confident, I am very happy with the people I have around me now. I am very happy with my engineers, the way we function as a team and the responsibilities I have within the team.
“I must say that I feel good in my skin. I know that I am facing an important year in my career when it comes to taking the next step.

“Last year was fantastic and this year I hope to do at least the same, if not more. I want to take this team as far forward on the grid as possible. That is my personal goal.”
