F1: Lewis Hamilton Reacts To Him Becoming An Honorary Citizen Of Brazil

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he’s become an honorary citizen of Brazil, admitting that it’s a “surreal and huge honour”. This comes the same day the Brazil’s parliament passed a bill allowing Hamilton to become a citizen after his amazing win at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Hamilton said the following at the track in Baku:

“It’s very surreal and what a huge honour it is,” he said as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend began.

“I was surprised when I heard about it yesterday because nobody contacted me about it, we just heard about it in the news.

“I’ve not heard of that happening, maybe it does in other places – but Brazil has always been a place that I’ve loved and admired since a kid.

“Obviously following Ayrton, you are naturally drawn to the country. Through my life, just meeting more and more Brazilians and learning more about the culture and the community, it’s very, very diverse there.

“A lot of music and colour and I’ve had so many amazing times there. I obviously won my first championship there and then 14 years later or whatever it was, to have that epic race there last year and the moment with the Brazilian flag.

“My biggest following is in Brazil, so I’m very honoured and very grateful and can’t wait to spend more time there.”

Free Practice 2 starts very soon. It’s been a bumpy time at Baku for the majority of drivers as they complain about more porpoising, with Ferrari and Mercedes having huge issues so far. Despite this, Leclerc came second behind Red Bull’s Sergio Perez.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
