What’s The Most Expensive Car In The World? Rolls-Royce Sweptail

I’ve been wanting to put together a list of the most expensive cars in the world for the end of this year, so of course, I’ve been doing my research. The thing is, there are only a couple of websites out of hundreds that actually have the correct leader of this list. The Rolls-Royce Sweptail, a one-off model built for a very favoured customer, is the most expensive car in the world. This is what you need to know.

Said to bring back the essence of the swept tail design of the 20s and 30s, it boasts a number of new design features to warrant its incredibly high price of almost $13 million. This makes it the most expensive new car in the world.

It was revealed at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza in May 2017 with a design that mimics that of a luxury yacht with a sweeping rear-end and a complete panoramic sunroof. In fact, it’s one of the most complex glass roofs in the industry, as is the wrap-around bodywork which hides the majority of the creases and boundaries, just like the hull of a boat. At the front, the largest grille in Rolls-Royce history sits proudly, milled out of a singular piece of aluminium.

Calling the interior elegant is an understatement. The rear houses a ‘hat shelf’, also like a boat, and wood, metal, and leather lines every surface. The dashboard is simple, with a Macassar veneer and machined titanium hands, but pull over for the evening and champagne flutes flip out of the centre console alongside your favourite bottle of champagne.

The engine is the least important part of this impeccably designed car, but works in unison with the suspension and sound proofing to remove the world from the car’s interior. It’s silent and soft, straight from the Phantom VII in the form of a 6.75-litre V12 engine. You won’t hear it, but it has plenty of power and torque to push you into a stream of traffic and into the fast lane. Figures haven’t been revealed, but they’ll be more than enough.
