Volkswagen Charged For Allegedly Violating Canadian Emissions Laws

VW is being charged by the Federal Government for allegedly importing cars into Canada with VW executives knowing that they violated emissions laws. The German company now faces 58 charges in regards to violating the Canadian Environmental Protection Act after importing 128,000 cars into Canada between 2008 and 2015 with illegal emissions.

An additional two charges will be included for supplying misleading information.

This case comes only four years after VW faced charges for installing software in its cars that would change the tune of the car while undergoing emissions testing. 11 million cars were fitted with this feature.

In March 2017, VW pleaded guilty to these charges in the United States and was fined $4.3 billion. The court case for these current charges will be held from this Friday in Canada.
