This Porsche 911 Has An 8.2L American V8

The Porsche and its boxer engine has had a long relationship. One that has pleased many a petrolhead with its low burble. When Porsche removed the Boxer engine from its lower-end models, the industry shed a collective tear, so how do you feel when I tell you that this 911 has had its Boxer engine with an 8.2L V8?

This V8 was taken from a Cadillac Eldorado and transplanted into the Targa 911 12 years ago by its loving owner. “It wasn’t a big deal,” he said. Apparently all that was needed was new engine mounts, a custom radiator and exhaust system, and a few adaptors to connect the German car to its American powerplant. The transmission is also from the Caddy – a three-speed auto which is able to survive the power and torque or the strong V8.

On that note, the engine produces 537bhp. 137 more than stock. And while the torque figure hasn’t been let loose from the owner, stock it produced 550lbs-ft of torque. That’s plenty for a Porsche 911 shell, especially when all the weight is over the back wheels.

What do you think? Would you sacrifice the Boxer for a V8? Let us know in the comments!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
