Yup, you read that right. Nissan have, for the second time, turned their Nissan Lead into a racecar. And I’m not at all embarrassed to tell you that I love it.
Like the 2013 car before it, this Nissan Lead is also a fully-electric vehicle, and therefore boasts “advanced battery technology and drivetrain components” that they’ve nabbed from the road car which includes the lithium-ion battery and inverters.
Like most other electric cars it also has dual motors powering both the front and rear wheels with each motor producing 120kW. That’s a total of 240kW, or 321bhp in old money. The biggest number is obviously the torque, sitting at 640lb ft. Not a surprise as we all know perfectly well that electric motors produce endless amounts of torque from the get-go. Compare it to the older RC, and the figures are double what it was.
It’s a bit weighty at 1220kg, but it could have weighed plenty more if it wasn’t equipped with a carbon fibre monocoque. And as a result, it hits 62mph in just 3.4 seconds.
