This Ford Mustang Mach-E Shelby Edition Render Gives Us Hope For The Future

There’s hope for the new and all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E as Ford Performance chief program engineer, Ed Krenz, explains that there could be a Shelby variant of the SUV coming in the future. The only issue holding the company back is in regard to its high weight and, therefore, low levels of agility.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of applying the Shelby characteristics to an electric car,” said Krenz last year according to Motor1. “The trick for us is the fun-to-drive part, and sustainability in terms of charging.”

He adds that his idea of the car would be an SUV that wouldn’t need to stop to charge for 20 minutes during a day of track driving.

“Straight line bit is easy with electric cars, but we know the Shelby DNA down to the ground and applying that to electric is difficult. Even so, all weight’s not bad; we’ve had Mach-E on the simulator and the low centre of gravity is an opportunity.”

If they do find a way of being able to control its high mass in the corners, though, we’d be looking at a serious performance car. But that’s the question: what would it look like? Well, our favourite renderer, X-Tomi Design, has given us an idea of what the future could hold.

The SUV takes on design cues from the new GT500 with a red paint job decorated with black stripes. A wing stands proud at the rear and vents adorn the hood for cooling of the… um… frunk? The front bumper has plenty of air inlets for cooling of the brakes, motors, and batteries, while also making it look as aggressive as a Shelby vehicle should be.

So, do you fancy an all-electric Shelby SUV? I’m inclined to say yes. The SUV movement is here, we may as well make them fast as hell.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps.

He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX.
