This Ferrari F40 Modernisation Needs To Go Into Production

The Ferrari F40 is a legend. At the time of its production during the late ’80s, this car was the most powerful thing to come from the Italian marque, and was the fastest production car with 500 units built in total. It could reach almost 200mph thanks to its 2.9-litre twin-turbo, rear mid-longitudinal V8 engine, that could produce 478 bhp and 425 lb ft of torque. But it’s been gone for far too long, and when you add on the fact that Ferrari hasn’t done anything interesting in a while, we’re starting to yearn for something new.

This modernised F40 that you see before you was produced by Samir Sadikhov, and unfortunately, if you haven’t guessed, it’s not real. It’s a rendering that shows us what the F40 could look like if Ferrari dared to bring it back. Samir wanted to maintain the F40’s original “minimalist” design while introducing some modern Ferrari into the mix. I can certainly spot some LaFerrari in there.

A large wing runs the width of the car at the back, and a host of other aero bits and pieces spice up the bodywork of this rendering. A quartet of rear lights sits at the back as an obvious throwback to the original supercar, and below that, an aggressive diffuser with sharp winglets sits parallel to the tarmac.

Its interior is simplistic with a Formula 1-style steering wheel that has its own speed readout. It has hints of modern McLaren running through its interior design, and if you think this is detailed, take a look at the monocoque Samir as put together. The work that went into this is truly staggering.

So guys, do you want to see Ferrari bring back the iconic F40? We do, even if it has to be a hybrid. Let us know what you’d want in the engine bay in the comments below.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
