The US Government Is Selling An ‘Illegal’ 1999 R34 Skyline GTR

A year or so back, Vang’s Dyno Performance owner Kong Meng Vang was caught with $5million worth of canabis. It turns out, it wasn’t just cars he was pedalling.

Because of this, all of his possessions were seized by the US marshals, including his properties and, what looks to be a very nice collection of cars. It turns out that the wannabe-Escobar had a thing for JDM legends and subsequently owned a couple of 1994 Supras, a ’91 NSX, a ’98 Impreza WRX STI Type R, and a 2000 Evo VI Tommi Makinen GSR. Yep, that’s quite a collection, but the most interesting specimen was the 1999 Skyline GTR R34 he had lurking below the sights of the law.

As I’m sure you know, it’s illegal to import cars into the United States that don’t meet the US DOT regulations. Now, I’m from the UK and don’t know a lot about this ruling, so make sure you Google it if you’re interested in knowing the exact ins and outs, but from what I know, the R34 was never tested, and therefore doesn’t have the correct certification to pass this law. Therefore, it is illegal to drive in the country.

It’s not rare to find a video of an R34 that’s been found by the police and taken straight to the crusher – a hard watch indeed, but at least the YouTube views can help pay towards a replacement. In this case though, the car is being sold at auction. The description states that the car does not comply with the EPA emissions and cannot be registered or used on road. Shame.

So, if you’re interested in having an R34 coffee table as a conversation starter in your front room, check out the auction. It will be continuing until April 1st with a soft close, meaning that a bid within the last three minutes will extend the auction time.

Good luck, if you’re brave enough.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
