The Best Amazon Car Shows Ranked: The Grand Tour To The Gymkhana Files

Amazon Prime Video is a content powerhouse, slowly building one of the largest collections of original car and racing content available on streaming sites. But with so much to choose from, it can be time-consuming to sieve through all the company has to offer. So take a load off as we talk you through the best of Amazon from Jeremy Clarkson’s The Grand Tour to Ken Block’s Gymkhana Files.

5. Le Mans: Racing Is Everything

Following the 2015 series of 24 Hours Of Le Mans, Le Mans: Racing Is Everything covers the behind the scenes of the legendary racing series through six, 30-minute episodes.

It covers a number of teams and individuals, including Janen Mardenborough, who became a driver for Nissan after winning the “Nissan PlayStation GT Academy”. Mark Weber also makes an appearance as he attempts to take his first win at Le Mans, and Audi’s LMP team features heavily.

But, unlike Truth in 24, which may as well be sponsored by Audi, this show is a well balanced and informative program that gives a great top-down look at the engine of the sport.

If it doesn’t make you want to start racing after watching it, you may be on the wrong website.

4. Grand Prix Driver

This four-part documentary follows the McLaren Formula 1 team in the 2017 pre-season testing period as drivers Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne learn the ropes behind the wheel of the new MCL32.

The drama of the show comes from the Honda engine that wasn’t only unreliable, but also horrifically underpowered. The stress is palpable, and you can feel the torture that the team is pushing through as they ready themselves for the upcoming racing. Matched with brilliant narration from Michael Douglas, this is a realistic view of F1.

With McLaren finishing second to last in the F1 Constructor’s Championship in 2017, this show definitely opens the doors to the hard work and dedication from the team, despite immovable objects stopping success.

3. Fernando

After 2017 being a pretty rubbish year for F1 driver Fernando Alonso, the Amazon program, originally named Fernando follows him for two years from 2018 as he puts his racing skills to the test in F1, WEC, Dakar, and Indy500.

How does this guy find the time to sleep??

This program is brilliant, but if you’re not a fan of subtitles, this may not be for you. Due to Alonso talking to his friends and family in Spanish, there are lots of subtitles to keep up with. But if you’re happy with focussing on what you’re watching, this is incredibly addictive. I promise you, you’ll get through this in a couple of days, if that.

2. Gymkhana Files

This 8 episode show follows The Hoonigans as they finish Climbkhana at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. Very simply, it follows the creation and production of Gymkhana 10, from the stresses of building the car to the filming of the incredibly driving.

These viral videos have become legend after it was featured on Top Gear so many years ago, and Ken Block has become arguably more well known for these Gymkhanas than his racing.

So if you’ve ever wondered what goes into these crazy videos, this will be the perfect watch for you.

1. The Grand Tour

We have to admit, The Grand Tour has some serious competition, but nothing has been able to beat the child-like chemistry between Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.

Follow the trio as they travel to incredible places with incredible vehicles. Madagascar in a Bentley? Cambodia in a PBR boat? Scotland in three huge American land yachts? The Grand Tour has it all.

While it obviously continues the Top Gear legacy, The Grand Tour was able to evolve the idea, largely thanks to Amazon’s huge investment into the show. And now, after the most recent change, the show consists entirely of special episodes. The quality is high, the laughs per gallon are aplenty, if you haven’t seen this, get on it.
