The 2022 Range Rover Is Here: This Is What You Need To Know

The fifth-generation Land Rover Range Rover will be launched in 2022, continuing the famous luxury SUV’s lineage. The Exterior

Being built on Land Rover’s MLA-Flex platform means buyers can buy both a short or long-wheelbase variant of the new Range Rover similarly to the new Defender. On top of this, there are four, five, and seven-seat configurations depending on which trim level the buyer chooses.

The new Range Rover’s design builds on the previous model’s appearance while streamlining design choices to their most basic elements. It has a smooth, rounded edge on the door that blends with the glass in a fluid transition. These little touches add up to a tremendous drag coefficient of 0.30 for the larger model – very impressive, indeed.

The Interior

Inside, there is a 13.7-inch digital instrument cluster. The center stack pairs this with a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with haptic feedback when used. A pair of 11.4-inch entertainment displays mount to the front seatbacks, too, just in case two screens weren’t enough. Yet another 8.0-inch touchscreen can be found in the center armrest only made available when you buy the Executive Class Rear Seats.

Of course, with all these screens comes a number of high quality, 1,600-watt Meridian Signature Sound System made up of 35 speakers, two of which are integrated directly into the headrests of the four main seats. The Autobiography version has noise-cancelling to make these even more potent.

The Chassis

The Range Rover comes with a new five-link rear axle that uses the navigation system to fine-tune the suspension for the road ahead. It also works in conjunction with adaptive cruise control and steering assist to smooth things out based on what this tech is achieving.

The active anti-roll bars on this SUV are powered, which means they’re more responsive than a hydraulic design. The system can generate up to 1,033 pound-feet (1,400 Newton-meters) of torque against the body to stabilise it in fast corners.

All-wheel steering is a new feature for the Range Rover, which can electronically swivel the rear wheels up to 7.3 degrees to improve manoeuvrability and turning circle which has shrunk to less than 36.09 feet (11 meters).

Under the hood

There are several engine choices available to European customers, including two plug-in hybrids, three gasoline-powered powerplants, and three diesel engines. In the US, there are just two powertrain alternatives at first. The 2023 model year sees the introduction of the plug-in hybrid P440e with 434 horsepower (324 kW). A fully electric version will be available in 2024.

Unsurprisingly, each variation comes with all-wheel drive and at the rear sits an active0locking differential.

In Europe, the PHEV models are powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with a 38.2-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery (31.8 kWh usable). The electric motor is integrated into the gearbox, adding 141 hp to the powertrain. Land Rover claims that, using electric power, the P510e PHEV can travel 50 miles in real life (80 kilometers) and will be able to hit 62mph in just 5.5 seconds.
