Only a couple of hours before Elon Musk shook up the house of Tesla, Lucid Motors released pricing for its main Model S competitor, the Lucid Air. With a base price of $77,400 USD, with the $7,500 USD tax credit, this would undercut the Model S with a price of $69,900.
In response to this, Elon quickly lept to Twitter to announce a price change for the Model S after a previous drop from $74,990 to $71,990.
“The gauntlet has been thrown down! The prophecy will be fulfilled,” he posted. “Model S price changes to $69,420 tonight!”
The gauntlet has been thrown down!
The prophecy will be fulfilled.
Model S price changes to $69,420 tonight!

With many of Elon’s Twitter followers believing this to be a joke, a look on the Tesla website will confirm that the price of the car has been reduced to match this tweet.
Does this make you want to buy an S just for the meme? Yeah, us too.
