Only an hour ago were we writing about mad engine swaps. A genius ripped apart a ride-on lawnmower and fitted it with a Chevy big block. The swap we’re talking about here is a little more subtle, but no less genius, as it gives America exactly what they’ve been wanting for a long time – A Ford M5.
The M5 is a staple BMW super saloon, so it’s only natural that someone would want to replicate the reason to its success but with a Ford Fusion. With a Coyote V8 straight from a Ford Mustang, it’s got around 500bhp, and its owner Matt has almost custom built a fully independent rear suspension from an S550 Mustang and the front subframe of an S197.
Before you ask, yes, of course this saloon sleeper is rear-wheel drive. The thing will happily drift around the Hoonigan home base while making plenty of good noises – exactly what the Fusion (or Mondeo in Europe) needed after its Ecoboost and diesel engine options didn’t quite hit the mark.
Unfortunately for us, Ford is slowly removing saloons from their lineup and replacing them with the extremely popular SUV style. Yep, while they’re not popular with us, or you, the common man loves the size of an SUV. This does mean, though, that it’s extremely unlikely that we’ll ever a fast Ford saloon in the future, so when you watch the video above, make sure you take it all in and savour the moment.
Are you going to miss the saloon body shape once they’ve been replaced by SUVs? We certainly are, especially after watching this.
