Racing Car Bursts Into Flames So Overtakes Safety Car – Balls Of Titanium!

There’s one rule everyone should know if they’re thinking about getting into motorsport – you race to win. But another rule that comes up quite soon after is the following. You cannot overtake the safety car.

But there are a few instances in which it is perfectly okay to do so. But in this specific scenario, I’m surprised the driver could overtake with the sheer weight of his testicles dragging the car down, even with the danger of a fire raging behind your seat.

Ex-GT race car driver and current Historic Motorsport Champion Calum Lockie is the guy behind the wheel in the video above. And when a fire started in the Shelby Cobra Daytona he was driving, he knew the only thing he could do to save the car is to race back to the pits. This meant overtaking the safety car, but I doubt anyone was overly fussed about that when they realised what was happening.

With the track slowed on yellow flags due to a stranded MGB, he attempted to put the fire out initially by weaving back and forth to create some air movement. But when that didn’t work, he made a few hurried hand gestures to the safety car driver and ended up placing the Daytona right next to a waiting fire engine. I bet that’s the first time the fire has come to them!

His ability to keep calm and quick thinking more than likely saved the car from a fiery end, while also allowing the race to carry on without him. Any has anyone realised that those 54 seconds of video above have been more entertaining that the whole of the F1 season this year? Just me?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
