From the company that brought us its first all-electric car, the Taycan, only a few short weeks ago, Porsche is now looking up rather than down to the tarmac below it. They’re heading to the stars and building a starship specially for the new Star Wars film, The Rise Of Skywalker, and we’re very excited about its naming strategy. The Millennium Falcon 911 Turbo S Targa just has a ring to it, doesn’t it?
Current designs are locked away for now, but we can confirm that Porsche now has a partnership with Lucasfilm who are currently working hard on advertising its latest film which is more than likely going to be the biggest film of the year as it rounds off the long story that started in 1977.
Michael Mauer, Porsche’s head of design told Top Gear: “Even though they do not seem to share many elements at first glance, both worlds have a similar design philosophy.” I’m not sure I can see that myself, but I’ll trust the guy who’s designed some of the most beautiful cars of the 21st Century. “I’m sure that both sides can draw major benefits from this exchange,” he says.
Lucasfilm’s Doug Chiang said: “We are bringing together two worlds with this project, the exotic film design of a galaxy far, far away and the precision work that goes into developing emotive Porsche sports cars”. Personally, I’m hoping the next 911 has a hyperdrive and blasters for anyone that fancies pulling out in front of me. Rebel scum.
The final design will be revealed in December later this year at the film’s premiere where Porsche is also showing off their new Taycan. Want to know what this future ship may sound like? Found out here.
