Nissan GT-R To Be Removed From Nisan Lineup Leaving Europe With No Nissan Sports Cars
It’s a sad day for the world of cars as it’s just been confirmed that the Nissan GT-R, nicknamed Godzilla for its unbeatable performance, is coming to the end of its life.
Nissan UK told CarScoops.com the following:
“13 years after its European introduction as the icon of accessible automotive high performance, we can confirm that European GT-R production will end in March, 2022 due to the new EU & UK drive by noise regulations starting 1st of July 2021 (No. 540.2014).”
The regulations noted in the above quote look to reduce the amount of noise produced by new vehicles after a similar noise reduction regulation launched in 1995 didn’t ‘have the effects expected”. For this reason, noise limits are being lowered even further, which is obviously an issue for manufacturers looking to produce higher-performance cars.
With the GT-R model line not continuing, Nissan will not sell any sports cars whatsoever in Europe with the new Z also not coming to Europe because of emissions regulations. The Japanese marque said the “shrinking European sports cars market and specific regulations on emissions mean that Nissan was unable to build a viable business case for the introduction of the production version of the next-generation Z-car in Europe.”
This is an incredibly sad day for those who are fans of Nissan’s coveted sports cars, and as I look outside to my own 350Z, my heart drops knowing that I’ll likely never be able to drive the latest of the Z line, and knowing what’s happening in the world at the moment with the cost of fuel and used car prices soaring, I’ll likely never be able to afford a GT-R. At least, not an ICE version anyway.
Yes, that’s right. An EV version of the GT-R is rumoured, although I haven’t heard anything about this for a long time. And while Nissan has always been proud of the fact the GT-R has been on the cutting edge of technology, somehow an EV version doesn’t do it for me.
