MX5 Miatas Are Being Transformed Into Baby Corvette Stingrays

I have something to tell you about MX5 Miatas. They’re not overly fast and, despite how many people say they’re the perfect sports car, they’re not. But before you reveal your burning torches and pitchforks from behind your computer screens, I’ll tell you that I have owned one and I completely fell in love with it. No, it’s far from being the perfect sports car, but I had an emotional attachment from the get go, nonetheless.

But what if you’re not like me and don’t quite fancy the modest looks of the new MX5? Maybe you prefer something more outgoing like, oh I don’t know, a classic Corvette Stingray? Well, this is your answer.

This is the Mitsuoka Rock Star, but before you’re put off by the name, have a closer look at these images.

Underneath the entirely new body panels sits the identical MX5 you would buy from a dealer, but its new styling oozes classic rock, low powered, gas guzzling V8s and the sound of Les Paul guitars and Marshall amps. With the second generation Corvette in mind, the Japanese company has given it sharper lines, chrome bumpers, and small circular headlights sat at the front of the car. And of course, you can’t ignore the muscle filled rises over the front wheels.

If there was ever a Mazda to LS swap, this would be it. Popping the bonnet would only reveal the very same four-cylinder found in the stock car, but take it to somewhere like Flyin’ Miata, and they could make this muscle car sing how it’s supposed to.

Prices start from around $46,000 before options (which include leather seats and some swanky paint options), so if you’re on a budget, an LS swap may not cut it. But hey, embrace the Miata’s inner muscle car, but et used to disappointed faces when you lift the bonnet.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
