Mopar Releases Their 1,000HP ‘Hellephant’ Crate Engine

Lately it’s been looking as though Mopar can do no wrong, and this nw Hellephant crate engine continues that trend.

The ‘Hellcrate’ engine Mopar revealed last year at the 2017 SEMA show was a hit – who knew that selling the engine from the quickest car in the world, the Dodge Demon would be a hit, eh? – and it’s been proven time and time again that its engine can be upgraded further to be even faster, like this turbocharged monster. So how do you beat it?

This year’s SEMA, Mopar have released the ‘Hellephant’ crate engine, which sings to the tune of 986bhp from its 7.0-litre supercharged Hemi V8. And torque?  950lb ft – enough to turn the Earth on idle.

It shares the same aluminium block as  NHRA Factory Stock-spec Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak vehicles, and boasts a new and higher performance supercharger with a “high-efficiency rotor”. The top end of the engine, well guess where they got that from? The Demon of course.

Alongside it comes an ‘engine kit’, which includes everything else you need to install it including an ECU, wiring harness, and an all important throttle pedal. Add on the ‘Front End Accessory Drive Kit’ and the ancillaries are thrown in, too. How’s that for ease of use?

The name is derived from the original 1964 426 Hemi, which was rather large and rather powerful, just like an elephant but minus the trunk. It’s only natural then, that the engine would be showcased in this 1968 Dodge Super Charger Concept which has been finished in ‘De Grigio’ grey and features a widebody kit and bonnet scoop. It’s all made from light-weight fibreglass and hides two headlamps from the Demon behind its grill.

If you want to cram a big motor into your car, start saving your pennies as the kit will cost you $19,530 plus $2195 for the Engine Kit. Not too shabby if you bear in mind that gives you almost 1,000bhp.
