Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Is The UK’s Most Popular Plugin-Hybrid SUV In 2020

It’s been one hell of a year for car sales with the Coronavirus Pandemic severely affecting figures, but Mitsubishi is still very proud of its Outlander PHEV, which remains the UK’s most popular plugin-hybrid SUV in 2020.

In fact, it’s the second best-selling plug-in hybrid with over 3,019 registered so far this year. In September alone, it ranked as the fifth-best seller in a total of 55 similar competitors, and third-best in the plugin-hybrid category.

This isn’t such a surprise as, from the outside at least, it looks brilliant and will certainly turn heads as it glides past on battery power. It is however, much more suited to driving around town and smaller roads over long motorway journeys due to the hybrid powertrain which consists of a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre petrol engine and batteries that will last 28 miles before needing to be charged at home or by the combustion engine. With mixed use, the Mitsubishi SUV will return 139mpg, which is simply insane for its size.

Around 53,000 of these Outlanders have been sold in the UK since Mitsubishi brought it to the UK in 2014, and it maintains its seat at the top of the genre with plenty of tech and space.

It’s available at a price of £35,815 OTR.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV continues to top the plug-in hybrid SUV sales charts in 2020, with over 3,000 registered so far this year in the UK. Across the overall PHEV market, which has seen a flood of new entrants in recent times, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV remains the second best seller overall with 3,019 sales in total so far in 2020.

In the key month of September, the Outlander PHEV was the second-best selling plug-in hybrid SUV and the fifth best seller in a field of 55 competitors, although amongst retail plug-in hybrid customers it was the third best-seller overall for the month.

Around 53,000 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs have been sold in the UK since the pioneering plug-in hybrid SUV was first launched in 2014. Having undergone an extensive re-style in 2016, recent technical improvements include a larger-capacity battery, more performance from its EV drivetrain and a more refined and efficient 2.4-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine. Its WLTP EV range is 28 miles and its WLTP CO2 emissions are 46g/km.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is available from £35,815 OTR including free servicing and roadside assistance for three years.
