Mercedes-AMG Teases The New GT 73 Halo Car

The end of the year is edging closer each day, and with projects coming to a close and a new year looming full of exciting projects for manufacturers across the world, it’s only right that the brilliant men and women behind this outstanding year for cars are thanked.

AMG, Mercedes’ high performance sector, are thanking every one of its employees with a video, documenting their huge success over the year. You can watch it below.

But if you manage to make it to the end of the video, you’ll grab a shot of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 73, the production-going version of the AMG GT Concept and what will be the halo car of the German brand. Like the lower-performance versions of the GT, power will come from the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. But unlike the GT models, the 73 will gain hybrid power via the addition of an electric motor on the rear axle.

The powertrain will likely make around 800bhp, with the power being transferred to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to this, we’re looking at a 0-60mph time of about 2 seconds and a torque vectoring AWD system should provide plenty of performance in the corners.

A release date and price of this machine is yet to be revealed, but make sure you check back in the future as there will be plenty of news to follow this.
