McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt Steps Down As CEO Of Supercar Company
The CEO of McLaren Automotive, Mike Flewitt, will retire after eight years in the role, according to a press release from the British supercar manufacturer.
It read:
“I feel incredibly proud to have led McLaren Automotive through most of its first, highly-successful decade and am privileged to have played a part in the incredible McLaren story,” said Flewitt. “This young company’s success is testament to the many passionate and talented people I have had the pleasure of working with and I look forward to seeing that success continue.”
In 2012, Mike Flewitt joined McLaren as Chief Operating Officer and was named Chief Executive Officer just over a year later. He watched over the extension of the company’s now vast portfolio of supercars, and through this, has been the man behind some of the best McLarens yet, including the 720S, Speedtail, and the legendary P1.
Flewitt has been with McLaren for the majority of its modern successes, having worked on the firm’s first car after it’s rebrand, the MP4-12C, which was launched in 2011. He continued to manage the move into the hybrid section of the industry, too, with the P1 being a coveted hypercar and one of the iconic ‘Holy Trinity‘ alongside the La Ferrari and Porsche 918. Now, the Artura continues its legacy.
“Mike has been instrumental in McLaren now being recognized as one of the world’s leading luxury supercar brands, achieving the heights of success that have taken our competitors many more decades to achieve,” said Paul Walsh, Executive Chairman of the McLaren Group. “We thank Mike for his tremendous contribution and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors.”
Flewitt hasn’t revealed what his plans are following the departure. McLaren Automotive, on the other hand, promises that it will begin looking for a replacement for Flewitt immediately. Meanwhile, the non-executive director of the McLaren Group, Michael Macht, will take over responsibility for technical and operational duties.
Mike should be incredibly proud of the McLaren he has created, and we’ll be very interested to see what comes next in his automotive adventures.
