Lewis Hamilton Reacted To Anthoine Hubert’s Fatal Crash During Live Interview

We take for granted the fact that there hasn’t been a major accident in racing for quite a while. But when it does happen, we’re snapped out of the Formula dream and plunged back into the real world where awful things happen to talented, young racing drivers.

Anthoine Hubert was taken from us over the weekend in a Formula 2 crash. Another driver, Juan Manuel Correa then hit his car at speeds of around 150mph and was taken to hospital with two broken legs and a damaged spine. He is now in a stable condition.

Hubert was confirmed dead by the FIA later that evening.

Their statement read:

The statement read: “The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regrets to advise that a serious incident involving cars 12, 19 and 20 occurred at 17:07 on 31/08/19 as a part of the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, round 17 of the season.

“The scene was immediately attended by emergency and medical crews, and all drivers were taken to the medical centre.

“As a result of the incident, the FIA regrets to inform that the driver of car #19, Anthoine Hubert, succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at 18:35.”

While being interviewed on live television, Lewis Hamilton was able to see the tragic crash and was visibly distressed by it – as anyone would be.

“Wow,” he says. “Hope that kid’s good, wow, that’s terrifying.”

He later posted to his Instagram the following after hearing that Hubert had succumbed to his injuries:

“This is devastating. God rest your soul Anthoine. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family today.”
