Lamborghini’s Nurburgring Lap Record Has Just Been Beaten

Yet another Nurburgring record has been set by the ladies and gentlemen at Porsche by the almighty Porsche GT2 RS, with a time of just 6m40.33s. This knocks Lamborghini of the top spot with their time of just a hair under 6m45s.

Only a year ago during September 2017, Porsche ran a time of 6m47.3s, which was subsequently beaten by Lamborghini and their Aventador SVJ. To remain on top, Porsche turned to their motorsport parter, Manthey Racing, who modified the car to better suit the Green Hell. That of course means, that this car is not a production car. It is still road-legal, but cannot be bought at any showroom.

This means that the Lamborghini still holds the title for the fastest production car around the ‘Ring, but nevertheless, this is a win for Porsche.

The driver behind the wheel of the Porsche was Lars Kern, who was also behind the previous record attempt.

“The drive was great fun,” he says. “The balance of the car is very good with the new package. I did not have to take any great risks to be fast. But I only had one attempt because it was already getting dark. It worked out first time though.”

Porsche still holds the fastest ever lap of the Nurburgring with their incredible 919 Hybrid endurance racer, and with Porsche looking to develop all future Lamborghinis, I think they can truly hold their heads high.
