I think most of us have wondered what we’d be like in a car chase. Would we be the real life version of Baby Driver, or would we seriously overestimate our skills behind the wheel and make ourselves look stupid as the police take us in for being an idiot?
Maybe in a fast car I’d be able to get some distance? But I certainly wouldn’t use the IS200 I’ve got waiting outside my house. And I certainly wouldn’t use a 2002 Acura CL.
One driver from Indiana. 20-year-old Dino Lorenzo Gagliano, thought differently, and instead of thinking clearly and understanding that his V6 Acura isn’t anything against the Hemi-powered chasers of the police, took to the roads at the life-threatening speed of 140mph during the early hours of the morning last Thursday.
Trooper William Carlson was sat on the shoulder of I-80/94 when he clocked the Acura at 116mph, over 60mph faster than the road’s speed limit, and swiftly gave chase to the driver of the Acura who was swerving in and out of traffic dangerously.
He was quickly pulled over and was surprised how quickly the police caught up with him explaining that he thought police cruisers “had V6 engines and was surprised when Trooper Carlson was able to catch up so quickly.”
He was taken into custody after not being able to outrun the police in his 225bhp, 3.2-litre V6 powered Japanese car, and faces charges of felony resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and plenty more to give his future behind the wheel a serious seeing to. As another kick in the gut, the police report was titled, “A Police V8 Hemi can Catch a 2002 Acura.”
