Honda E Sends 221lb ft and 148bhp to Rear Wheels

We introduced this new little car a while ago when it was first revealed, but while we knew about its  RWD all-electric powertrain and its perfectly balanced weight distribution, the car was still shrouded in mystery.

Now though, the journos have gotten in the small city hatch (not me, though, boo) and more details have become apparent. Since reading through the press release, I think this happy looking hatch is going to have quite a snarl hidden behind its smiling face.

A rear-mounted motor pushes 148bhp to the rear wheels. This isn’t tarmac cracking I know, but impressively, it also has 221lb ft on tap from a standstill. Oh yes I do love an electric motor for their instant torque. This car’s going to be a handful.

Unfortunately, while this car will bomb down a city road, get it somewhere open and it will struggle to keep up. 62mph comes in under 8 seconds – not a figure to scoff at, but certainly not fast. Although we must remember that this is a city car, just like the Jazz which wouldn’t be able to touch this on a drag strip… if you were so inclined. Which I doubt.

In the city is where this car will shine. From its minute size to its tiny 4.3-metre turning circle, you’ll be pushed to find a car that will manoeuvre quite as well as this one. And if you’re feeling really lazy between red lights, you can set the car to automatically introduce regenerative braking for when you take your foot off the go pedal.

So, if you’re looking for the cutest car to trundle round a few tight roads, then look no further. And with ample amounts of torque available, I think you could have some fun, too.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
