Everything You Need To Know About The 2020 Audi RS6 Avant

For years, the insanity that is the RS6 Avant has been evading the shores of North America. C5, C6 and C7 iterations were untouchable to us westerners, until now of course. Audi has unveiled the next generation of the wagon and, for the first time ever, it will be sold in North America. Since it’s inception in 2002, the car has developed a cult following. The obsession became deeper in 2010 when Audi thought it would be a good idea to throw the engine from a Lamborghini Gallardo under the hood. All 592 horsepower’s were mated to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. It was a supercar killing wagon at a fraction of the price of said killed supercars.

Now, the RS6 is back with it’s fourth generation, the C8 that has an updated powerhouse and looks. The new styling is aggressive with sharp lines. It has a large front grille with two intakes on either side giving it a menacing, wide stance. It still has the quintessential Audi wagon look with the long roof line tucking into its rear. Silver trim surrounds it’s dual exhaust tips with a black mesh diffuser that sits in between.

The new engine is a hybrid-type twin-turbo 4.0L V8 that produces 591 horses and 590 ft-lb of torque. It will propel you from a standstill to 62mph in 3.6 seconds thanks to its all-wheel-drive system, Quattro. The hybrid portion is a 48-volt belt alternator starting system that stores energy that can “spin up” the engine to help with immediate POWERRRR with all tree-saving benefits of a hybrid motor. Optioned out to it’s highest trim (Dynamic Plus Package), the RS6 has a top speed of 190mph.

For my North American brothers and sisters who have been following the Avant for years, this is a time to celebrate. Car’s with north of 500HP are becoming more common and for less money. The Avant is the newest introduction to this segment and I’m excited to see them on North American roads.

The RS6 should hit showroom floors in the third quarter of 2020.
