Cupra Shows Off Its 301BHP Tavascan SUV Concept

SUVs are slowly taking over the industry. Their profit power is incredible and only through these can automakers fund their more exciting projects. However, this all-electric SUV from Cupra is saying all the right things.

Named Tavascan, Cupra has infused this new electric car with its pedigree DNA with the hopes of its gorgeous exterior lines and high performance taking the focus away from the term ‘SUV’. It has two motors, one integrated in the front axle and one at the rear, which creates 225kW for all four wheels to use. This will enable it to hit 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds.

These days performance isn’t the whole story, so Cupra thinks a range of up to 450km may sweeten the deal. And that it does, because once sat inside this luxury vehicle, you’ll want to take a long drive to soak in the impeccably designed interior.

It’s simplistic like a Tesla, with the majority of controls being integrated into the 13″ central infotainment system. Behind the wheel sits a 12.3″ digital cluster, which is able to show any necessary information to the driver – just as well, because when a passenger relaxes into the contrasting leather, carbon and Alcantara cabin, the central screen can turn to focus on them.

From the outside, the Tavascan certainly looks the part with a muscly front end – the latest Camaro facelift springs to mind. The Cupra logo sits low on the front bumper, and copper and carbon accenting around the car only accentuates its high-profile aesthetic. The 22″ turbine wheels are aerodynamically configured to minimise resistance, and the venting on the body panels are designed to allow air to move over the body smoothly, or when needed, cool the battery pack.

The rear diffusor apparently improves aerodynamics, but really just allows the design to sweep to an end with the Cupra logo and model name lit up in red above it.

Cupra has certainly shown its hand with this car, and while it’s only a concept, have been keen to show off its impressive figures. But more importantly, they’ve shown that they can make one hell of a sexy SUV. High performance or not, this is a car I’d be happy to have sat on my driveway.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps.

He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX.
