Could Porsche Revive The 914 As An EV?

In a recent article we hinted at the possibility of Porsche bringing back its entry-level sports car, the 914. While it is an interesting idea that the 914 badge could be revived, what are your thoughts on if the 914 were… all-electric? Could Porsche be thinking about adding another EV? It’s entirely possible. It’s not that outlandish of an idea with the way automakers are trending and attempting to compete with Tesla. Even the guys over at Porsche Club of America (PCA) think it’s a possibility, who appear to have generated the idea of an electric 914.

Currently, Porsche just released its all-electric Taycan that goes 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, if you opt for the Turbo S version. While we wouldn’t expect an electric 914 to have that kind of speed, it would be nice if could go 0-60 in under 5 seconds or thereabouts. While the Taycan estimates around 200 miles on a charge, something similar would be expected from an entry-level, stripped down version of a 914 EV.

Could there even be a new collaboration with VW? Volkswagen has made it known that their focus is on the EV market, stating they will be building over a million EVs per year in 2023. If VW has the technology and platform available that could easily be paired with what Porsche needs, it’s not out of the question.

Does the automotive world need an electric two-seater with a removable top to continue to build upon their electric offerings? It’s definitely a possibility and one that could set them apart in the EV world.
