Carjacking Foiled By Manual Transmission In Nashville

It turns out that you don’t need a car alarm or central locking or a steering wheel lock to keep your car from being stolen. All you need is a manual transmission.

Less than 3% of cars sold in the US are manual, so as you’d expect, very few people know how to drive them. So when someone tried to steal a car, they’re unlikely to actually drive off with it if it’s a manual.

That’s exactly what happened in Nashville when two boys, 15 and 17 years old, tried to steal a parked car last Tuesday. They pulled out the female driver who was honking her horn in complaint before she fled the scene.

The boys left soon after, but without the car. They gave up on the car as they didn’t know how to use the manual ‘box, fortunately for its owner.

Nashville Police tracked down the adolescents and arrested them not long after the incident.
