Camaro Wrecked In Massive Crash During $10,000 Grudge Race

We know racing is a dangerous sport, but it’s not often we properly appreciate the safety gear that surrounds us in the cars we drive.

During a grudge race worth $10,000 in Kansas, a Chevrolet Camaro driven by David Hildebrand took a bad turn and veered off the drag strip.

Two teams, Da Boogeyman, the Camaro from Colorado, and Honey Badger, A Chevy Nova from Oklahoma, traveled to the No Prep Mayhem race in Wichita, Kansas to bring to an end a heated discussion that was started on Facebook (shown in the video).

It wasn’t long before everything went south as the Camaro swooped onto the other side of the strip, losing traction and brushing its wheelie bar against the front bumper of the Nova, scraping away the top layer of paint as if it was performing precision surgery. Upon counter-steering, it flung itself towards the guard rail and flipped as it came into contact, matting the throttle and launching itself into the grass.

After several flips, the driver thankfully emerged safe from the wreckage, but the damage was done and the car was a write-off.

“Always wear a seat-belt and safety devices. It’s important,” David tells some kids as he hands them autographed parts of the torn body shell. They smile and agree as David starts laughing. This crash could have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for his safety equipment. He was left with only a few bruises.

He explains how he wears a still wears a 20 layer suit compared to the lighter Sparco suits that don’t cushion you in the event of a crash. “Having that 20-layer suit makes a difference,” he says.

They pack up the carcass of the drag car and leave. But later on lightning strikes twice as a fire erupts in the trailer and burns what was left to smithereens.

It was an extremely unlucky day for Da Boogeyman, but we’re very glad that no one was seriously hurt – a car can be rebuilt. The driver can’t.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
